Hollow Form Vessel Pendants

Meet Cyd

"I hope to create with my hands something that may transcend the purely ornamental to become a tangible expression of our connections and humanity."

Artist Cyd Rowley

Designer and Metalsmith

Cyd Rowley works from her Kensington Maryland studio where she creates sculptural “vessel” pendants that are inspired by her fascination with containers worn on the body, and with creating pieces that can be personalized, that tell a story, and that provoke conversation and connection with others. She studied design and jewelry fabrication at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore.

As an independent studio jeweler, her goal is to do work that stretches her professionally, and that is meaningful for the wearer.

Artist Statement

I describe my work as artful and avant-garde. I make pendants that are small vessels, inspired by those worn historically for practical purposes (holding spices, scents or small tools). My pieces, rather than being utilitarian, tap into the powerful role that jewelry plays in connecting us with others and in expressing something about who we are. They’re designed to hold something important, to express something about us and to provoke conversation with friends, family and even strangers. I hope the work I make enhances feelings of connection and self expression.

Cyd is a board member of the Washington Goldsmiths Guild. She also holds the position of Regional Representative (Mid-Atlantic) for the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG), and is member of Crafthaus. She is registered instructor with Rio Grande's Rio For Schools program. She teaches hydraulic forming using the Bonny Doon press and tooling.
